ELA Class!!

Hi everyone, welcome to ELA class! ELA stands for English Language Arts, so that means in this class we will be teaching you all about reading, with some writing. speaking, and listening too! We want to read tons of books this year, some together, and some even on your own. You will love reading (or at least like it a little more) when you are done with this class!

You will have two teachers in this class so make sure to learn about them below. We are so excited to meet and teach you :)

About ELA Class

What are we reading this year?

This year, we will be reading two books together as a class, and many more independently on our own, and together through book clubs. The two books we will be reading as a class are Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis and Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan. We will be using online notebooks, Google Forms, Google Docs, Google Slides and more.

How to Find Classwork:

I will be posting many ELA assignments on Google Classroom. If you missed class, checking in with me is best because I do a lot of work that is not on google classroom as well. You must use your student @chelseaschools.com email to log into Google Classroom.

Meet your teachers!

Hi! I'm Ms. Guevarez, or Ms. G!

About me:

So my name is Ms. G! I am from Connecticut, that is where my mom and my two younger sisters live still. Back in CT they have two dogs so you might hear me talk about them sometimes. I am going into my 6th year at WSTA. I taught 7th grade ELA and math for one year, and then I've been in 5th grade ELA ever since. When I was in school, my favorite subjects were Spanish and writing. Also, I am pretty short, some of you might even be taller than me.

I like a lot things, but one of the best is donuts. I can eat donuts all of the time, morning, noon or night. I listen to tons of different music but one of my favorites is Taylor Swift. I love to travel, and hangout with friends as much as I can. My favorite football team is the Patriots and my favorite TV show is Friends.

Talking Points

Welcome to the Wright, fifth graders! We are so excited for you to join our school!

My name is Ms. Archibald and I am the literacy coach, which means I work with all of your ELA, Writing, Reading, and sometimes even your History teachers! I work with all of the grades from fifth all the way to eighth!

I have been teaching and coaching in Chelsea since 2011, so I might know many of your older siblings, cousins, or other family members!

Our biggest hope for you is that you will feel happy and safe at the Wright. Get ready to do a lot of learning, reading, and writing over the next four years!

When we're in school, you can find me in my office in the library or in your ELA and Writing classes helping you and your teachers with your reading and writing.

Now that we are starting the year virtually, you can find me commenting on your work or in your Zoom lessons. My Google photo looks like this.
