Kindergarten-Grade 2
Summer Reading & Writing
Over the summer students can engage in different literacy activities every day! Students can practice skills with books or online. Students should read at least 20 minutes every day to maintain their reading skills. They can read by themselves or you can read to them!
Every student received a Summer Reading Book that is theirs to keep, and a packet with some other suggested activities to try at home. Bring the packet back when school begins and we will celebrate all your wonderful work!
Please see the recommendations for summer reading, websites, and summer writing below.

Resources for Summer Reading Books
This year, summer reading is all about student choice. Below are a few FREE resources where students can get books to read.
1. Actual books: Students can read books they already have at home, enjoy the new books in the summer reading book pack, and get books from the Chelsea Public Library
2. Ebooks & audio books online: a few online sources that you probably have already used to access online books are listed below.
EPIC: has ebooks, audio books, and interactive books online for free! (Parents can sign up for a free trial to access one book a day)
SORA: available through your Chromebooks in the Chelsea Schools Google apps, as well as in app stores for smartphones & tablets (log in with your Chelsea Google account). SORA has a rotating selection of ebooks and audio books available through our school account. You can also link to public libraries for an even bigger selection!
Libby: available online or as an app for smart phones or tablets, Libby allows access to thousands of ebooks and audio books through public libraries. You must have a public library card to access Libby!
If you don’t have a library card, email the Chelsea Public Library librarians at coclibrary@chelseama.gov or call (617) 466-4355 to set up an account. You may also visit the CPL website.
