201st Fighter Squadron

Very few all-Latino units in the armed forces were involved during World War II. The 201st Fighter Squadron, also known as the Aztec Eagles, is one of those few units. The 201st Fighter Squadron was composed of all Mexican nationals and is under the Mexican Expeditionary Air Force. This squadron was formed of 33 pilots and more than 270 ground personnel

The 201st unit is the only unit in the history of Mexico to fight outside of Mexico’s border. Because the squadron is made up of all Mexican nationals, it is a source of pride for Mexico.
