Fluency

Fluency Disorders: is when a child has difficulty producing speech smoothly. This is often referred to as stuttering. Stuttering therapy often incorporates multiple components to include: cognitive (awareness), affective (emotional), linguistic (language), motoric, and social. Stuttering can impact an individual and their self-esteem. Therapy often focuses on communicating with confidence. For some children, fluency enhancing or stuttering modification strategies may be taught to allow the child to employ when needed to minimize stuttering behaviors (e.g., ordering, public speaking, meeting someone new).
