Comprehensive School Counseling Program
Our Mission:
The Comprehensive School Counseling Program at Phillips Middle School forms collaborative partnerships with students, families, teachers, administrators, and community stakeholders in order to promote and enhance the academic, career, and social/emotional outcomes for all students. Our program creates opportunities within a safe and nurturing environment for the development and growth of critical thinking and self-advocacy skills to support students in preparation for post-secondary endeavors. All students will be affirmed and supported as they seek to reach their fullest potential and live a balanced life.
Our Vision:
Phillips Middle School empowers students to be engaged global citizens who advocate for themselves and demonstrate respect for the experiences and feelings of others. As lifelong learners, they seek to make a positive impact and inspire the next generation to do the same.
Our Roles/Responsibilities:
Phillips Middle School Counselors aim to provide services in accordance with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), implement suggestions from the district on suggested use of time, and also strive to balance additional duties as assigned by Administration at the building level. ASCA endorses that School Counselors should spend 80% of their time in direct service with students, and 20% of their time working on behalf of students through means of organization, collaboration, and the faciliation of needed supports.

Individual short-term, solution-focused counseling sessions
Data-driven small group counseling
Class registration
Rising 6th grade transition services
Rising 9th grade transition services
Facilitate restorative conversations between peers
Crisis Response and Intervention
Coordinate orientations for students new to our school
Coordinate character education activities
Indirect Services:
Attend parent/teacher conferences
Facilitate 504 meetings
Gather and analyze data to determine areas where needs exist
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, specialists, and parents/guardians to meet student needs
Referrals for additional supports as needed
Planning and implementing school-wide programs
Participate on school committees
