Students in the CHHS FemSTEM and Tiger Tech Squad clubs have developed a VR program on campus to promote the access to technology and the training of information technology skills to female students.
FemSTEM club started the VR program at CHHS during the 2017-2018 school year. The members learned how to use VR and then became VR Ambassadors, providing a leadership role in IT for the female club members. The club wanted to expand its reach this year, and decided to bring VR to other underrepresented population groups in IT on the CHHS campus. FemSTEM Ambassadors brought VR to the Brothers of Unity and LOCKET club members. FemSTEM is happy to continue as VR Ambassadors for the Next Tech program.
Using skills learned through Cisco Networking Academy courses, the Tiger Tech Squad VR Team provides the technical support needed to run the Next Tech VR program. These students setup and tear down the VR equipment, stay during meetings to provide technical support, and answer technical questions as they arise. Club members work together to research equipment specs and have been instrumental in new device selection and ordering.
During the event, FemSTEM students will be managing the use of the hardware and permissions for accessing the equipment. Their insights gained throughout the year will be influencing the format and process of the event.
The Tiger Tech Squad VR Team will arrive early to setup all equipment. During the event, they will be on call for any technical issues that arise. Team members will also tear down and pack up all equipment at the end of the event.
