January 2025
January was the kickoff for the Medical Explorers guest presenter series. During this session, students learned about germs and best handwashing techniques. Medical Explorers is a health careers club piloted by CHCCS CTE in collaboration with local AHEC chapters this year. Throughout the spring semester, students were able to explore various health careers in fun and hands-on ways.
February 2025
February was CTE Month, a time to celebrate all things CTE! Cooking demonstrations taking place in FACS classrooms, t-shirts presented to our awesome MS CTE staff, and highlights from the 8th Grade High School CTE Tours are displayed below. The Medical Explorers club also took a field trip to the UNC Adams School of Dentistry.

March 2025
During the month of March, students participated in the Students@Work program and visited Raleigh for a tour of the Capitol and learned about careers in the Office of the Governor! A group of Business and Family & Consumer Sciences students completed a hospitality tour of the Rizzo Center. A team from CISCO also provided classroom visits and exposed students to IT careers with interactive projects. Medical Explorers learned hands only CPR for adults and babies during sessions with nurses from both UNC and Duke.

April 2025
In April, CHCCS Chartwells' dietician and chef duo presented the Discovery Kitchen program with all middle school Family and Consumer Sciences classes in the district. We also had a visit from Betabox, where Technology Education students were able to program and drive robotic cars and drones. Students also participated in another Students@Work program, with a visit to Enbridge Gas, an energy company in Cary. For the final Medical Explorers session of the year, students were able to explore an Orange County EMS ambulance and were presented with gifts from AHEC.

May 2025
To close out the year we had various classroom visits! Carrboro Plumbing taught students about the skilled trades profession of plumbing and students were able to practice their soldering skills. Prism Design Lab allowed students to explore their architectural design skills. Students were also able to perform professional tasks for various careers using the career exploration VR headsets.
