About Me: Hello!  I am Catherine Sweat and I serve as the Gifted Education Specialist here at McDougle Middle.  I stepped into the Gifted Specialist role in (2019-2020) and previous to that I was a Sixth and Seventh Grade ELA teacher at McDougle for 11 years.  I am entering my 20th year in Middle School Education and there is no other place that I would rather work than McDougle; it truly feels like home to me.  I have an undergraduate degree in Middle Childhood Education from the University of Findlay, Ohio, a Masters Degree in Literacy K-12 from UNC-Chapel Hill, and I completed my gifted certification through Elon University back in 2007. I am the advisor of Student Exploration Projects (SEP) that we started last school year and I am the National Junior Honor Society Advisory (NJHS) for our McDougle Chapter.  As always,  I look forward to serving our gifted students this year as well as all students that show a need for differentiated instruction.  I have the pleasure of collaborating with teachers weekly to support differentiation needs in the classroom as well as co-teaching at times with our ELA teachers and meeting with small groups of students throughout the year.  Please reach out to me if you have any questions and concerns.  This is definitely a different year in education, but please know that everyone at McDougle is working extremely hard to make it as successful as it can possibly be!
