3D Modeling & Animation

For my PBM, I am going to do option 6, the forgotten classroom. The purpose of this cut scene is to make someone who is viewing it wonder what happened to the classroom and why is it abandoned. My character in this is going to be the light fixture that is eerily swinging back and forth in front of the chalkboard, along with a pencil slowly rolling across the ground. This will tell a story about people who were once inside of this classroom that are now gone. I will likely need to build a table, a chair, a chalkboard, a light, and a pencil. I could also use a model of a door online if I need it. The light fixture will need the most detailed modeling because it is going to be doing the most movement. The light fixture will also need some rigging to be able to swing the right amount. The design of the light will make the atmosphere of the room much more eerie and mysterious with the flickering lighting. The layout of my scene will have the chalkboard in the front and center of the room, with the light fixture being right above that, along with a few desks and chairs placed throughout the room. The first camera will be placed in the corner of the room, then the next one will be in the front of the room, both of these facing the chalk board. The layout will give an eerie ambiance throughout the room.
Light Fixture - Will swing in front of and above the chalkboard with a flickering light
Pencil - Will roll across the ground in front of the fallen desk
For my "main character" of my PBM, I chose a light fixture to be above the chalkboard in my abandoned classroom. The concept for my character was to make it swinging eerily above the chalkboard, providing the only source of light in the room besides the sun. The modeling tool that I found most useful while creating my main character was definitely edit poly. This is because I used this to create the shape of the light a lot easier than I would be able to with just standard primitives. My physical material setup enhances the realism of my model by allowing me to use bitmaps, and also use reflections which are necessary for my character. A challenge that I encountered frequently while modeling my character was getting the bitmaps to look just right on the place that I was putting it. It often looked distorted or weird.
The assets that I chose were some school chairs. I also downloaded some wall decorations, and a book. I used these assets to make my scene look more like an abandoned classroom. My process for deciding these things for my scene was to use some reference pictures and I also looked around the classrooms that I was in during the day to get some reference to what I should use for my scene. One prop that I am the most proud of is the chalkboard that I made for the front of the room. This is because It is one of the most realistic looking pieces that is in the scene besides my character. The tool that I used the most during the process for creating my scene was probably the scale tool. Whenever I imported models into the scene, they were often too big or too small in relative to the rest of my models. Creating an asset list helped me because I was able to keep track of what models I needed to look for on 3D modeling sites. I also knew which models I was going to model myself, and which I would need from a site. I made some changes to my scene after modeling by deciding to add a wall decoration later in the modeling process. I am most excited to work on the lighting for the next artifact because my scene is going to be heavily based on lighting. The completed scene without lighting or materials still gives a feeling of " abandoned classroom", due to all of the fallen chairs, broken, and the same with desks.
The mood that I tried to create with the lighting in the scene is a sunset to create a sense of mystery or even comfort in a sense. I used two omni lights to create the sunset look coming through the window and door. I used a spotlight for the light being projected by the main character. The color temperature was very warm instead of cool to get that sunset look. This type of lighting aims to make the room a little darker than it normally would be, having some dark spots, making a sense of mystery.
