3D Modeling & Animation

My game is called The Forgotten Classroom and is about exploring an abandoned school building. The cutscene is the establishing shot of my game and introduces the player to the game. The character in my animation is the projector, what makes my character unique is that it powers on in the middle of the animation. My cutscene tells a story without using dialogue by creating intrigue as the projector turns on without anyone powering it. The light fixture and projector will require detailed modeling. None of my characters will have to be rigged for movement. The design of my projector reflects it's role in the story as it is a projector and it's turning on will create intrigue. The layout of my scene looks like a typical classroom, the key objects will be placed in the center and in the corner. My camera will move from outside of the classroom to inside because this will be the establishing shot of the game. My layout supports the flow of the cutscene by allowing the camera to go through the window and into the classroom.

The concept for my main character is a projector that will turn on at the end of my animation to help it loop and to show that something is off with this class room. I used sub-object modeling very effectively as the entire body of my projector is made from a single box. Using PBR materials enhanced the realism of my model by allowing me to make better looking textures for my projector. The character will be the focus of my animation and scene so will be very important in many aspects.
The assets in my scene connect to my chosen prompt as they make up a classroom which is the setting for my prompt. I choose to make all the assets myself because I tried importing some from online and got confused and since they were side characters they didn't require much work. I used editable poly and specifically chamfer edges a lot for this project as it helped add realism to my model. The prop I am most proud of, besides the previously modeled projector, is the teacher's desk because I think it looks good and I was able to model it quickly and with a relatively low poly count. Making an asset list helped me stay organized by creating a to-do list and keeping me on course. I changed a lot about this scene as I made it as my scope narrowed but not as much as it would have if I had gone in with more than a general idea of the eventual animation. If I could have changed one thing about my modelling process it would have been staying on track better as I was very inefficient with my time usage. I am most excited to work on my animation next as it will really begin to tell the story.
