Chararcters:
I animated a short scene depicting a character walking through a small house, changing environment. I chose these elements to demonstrate my ability to handle both character animation and environmental effects. The character allowed me to focus on realistic movement and emotional expression, while the changing environment provided an opportunity to experiment with particle systems and procedural animation, showcasing a broader range of technical skills.
To ensure a seamless loop, I carefully planned the start and end frames of the animation. For the character's walk cycle, I made sure the first and last poses were identical, and the velocities of all moving parts matched at these points. For the environment, I used offset keyframes or procedural generation techniques where the end state smoothly transitioned back to the beginning state, often by having elements disappear off-screen before reappearing at the start of their cycle.
A significant challenge I encountered was achieving the correct timing for the character's emotional beats within the dynamic environment. Initially, the character's reactions felt either too rushed or too slow, not aligning with the environmental changes. I addressed this by adjusting keyframe intervals and using ease-in/ease-out curves more precisely, often reviewing the animation frame by frame to fine-tune the pacing until the emotional impact felt natural and compelling.
I am most proud of the integration of the character's emotional journey with the environmental changes. The way the character's mood subtly shifts as the environment transforms, from a bright, hopeful landscape to a darker, more challenging one, feels particularly successful. This synchronicity between character performance and visual storytelling was a core goal, and I believe I achieved a compelling narrative through this interaction.
