Description of scene:
The scene would likely be the first cut scene you see in a game where you are a soldier of the Red Army who goes rogue, and is now on the run from the KGB whilst also trying to stay within his home country. The game would be centered around the idea of ending, whether it's life, school, government, it doesn't matter. The scene I describe below will be a sort of foreshadowing for the concept of inevitable death, using abandonment and emptiness of a fallen country, centered on a dead leader of a dead ideology, highlighting the future of which you (the character) will fight for, and how it ends. Maybe the game would be called "The Blood Red Army"
A wide view of an old Soviet classroom, ahead are desks and chairs, not many but some, most flipped or damaged somehow. The walls are a worn light green with white bottoms and the wall to the left is destroyed and opens up to the outside which will be a snowy, desolate area with two dead trees far away. The camera will zoom in closer to the front of the classroom to a ripped picture of Vladimir Lenin, its folds rustling in the wind. The objects that will move will be: a rock falling from a pile of rubble, a damaged soviet flag on the wall blowing in the wind, and the picture of Lenin. Lenin is this cutscene's main character. The scene will tell a clear story of ending and abandonment, using the past of a nation's education and its abandonment to highlight such themes.
Floor Plan:
What does the layout of your scene look like? Where are the key objects placed?
It looks like a classroom. It is full of damaged desks, papers, and other classroom like things. The main character is placed on the front wall, next to the chalkboard. The desks will be scattered throughout the room
Where will your camera(s) be placed, and why?
There will be one camera following a path from the back to the front of the classroom as to zoom in and get all of the details of the classroom and highlight the main character.
How does your layout support the flow of the cutscene?
The camera should flow through the desks and rubble, passing through as if the perspective needs to dodge them
Rubble
Walls (Light green with white bottom)
Desks
Picture of Lenin (damaged) (character)
Hammer and Sickle
Chalkboard
Broken wall bits
Dead tree
USSR flag
No rigging should be added.
Many things like rubble and especially the portrait of Lenin will require extra detail.
The main character of the scene (Lenin's portrait) represents the USSR and the story ahead.
My main character of this scene is a damaged and ripped portrait of Vladimir Lenin, its flap of ripped paper hanging on to the portrait and blowing in the wind.
I faced a lot of challenges with this. I was very lost for a long amount of time and I did unnecessary things a lot because I apparently didn't listen well enough. Trouble with UVW's, modeling, animating (which I didn't have to do yet) and more. I spent weeks on a piece of paper. PAPER. I am proud of it though.
I'll be writing lazily as I don't have long to turn this in
How do your assets connect to the chosen prompt?
I mean the models are classroom related and soviet related so that matches the prompt
Which assets did you choose to create yourself and which did you choose to find online? Why?
I created everything except for some of the rocks and random papers because I had forgotten that I could use online models up until then
What kind of environment did you decide to build? Why did you choose this setting?
Soviet classroom. I like the USSR
What references or inspiration did you use to plan your props and environment? (Include images if available)
I used my drawings and the product I had in mind
What was your process for deciding which objects were essential for your scene?
The soviet aspect (abandoned, communist aspects) and classroom aspects (Desks, chalkboard, etc.)
Which 3D modeling tools or techniques did you use most often when creating your scene assets?
I used splines, meshes, modifiers, etc.
Describe one prop or object you’re most proud of. What makes it successful?
I'm proud of the hammer and sickle. It looks cool,
What challenges did you face while modeling your assets, and how did you solve them?
Oh I faced a lot of problems regarding the models, textures, modifiers, etc.
How did you make sure your models were in scale with your main character?
I did it by eye
How did you ensure that your models matched the genre and visual style of your chosen prompt?
I don't know how to answer this
How did you organize your scene and files
I named things
How did creating an asset list help you plan or stay on track?
It kinda didn't
Did you make any changes to your scene plan after you started modeling? Why?
I got rid of the chairs and teachers desk because time was short
If you could improve one part of your workflow or modeling process, what would it be?
Figure shit out faster
What did you learn about asset creation or scene design during this phase of the project?
That I am bad with memory
How does your completed scene support the story or idea behind your prompt?
Soviet symbolism and abandonment
What are you most excited to work on next?
\_('_')_/
What mood or atmosphere did you aim to create with your lighting?
Dark and cloudy
Which types of lights did you use, and how did they work together?
Targeted spotlights and that's it
How did color temperature and light intensity affect your scene’s tone?
Grayness and low intensity increased dark mood
What challenges did you face when setting up or balancing your lights?
I didn't
How does your lighting enhance the storytelling of your project prompt?
It enhances the dark mood man idk
What did you animate, and why did you choose those elements?
I animated an abandoned soviet classroom in a snowy area. I picked this because I have a particular interest in Soviet Socialist Republics and Communism.
What part of your final animation are you most proud of?
I think the falling of the hammer and sickle was pretty cool. It wasn't included in my original plan and was sort of just something that I did to pass time. I'm glad I did it though.
