Leaning over the bow, I captured how the bottom of the ship's hull pushes through ice, causing long cracks for the ice to separate as the ship navigates forward. A little shaky at first, but know that I was focused on not dropping my camera!
I know it's a bit shaky, but this video shows this polar bear's incredible sense of smell at work as he sees us on the ship. Polar bears have keen powers of smell to help them detect their favorite prey---seals!---from 20 miles away or more. AND they can smell their breathing holes from nearly a mile away.
