All concert band classes meet 5 days a week for 45 minutes as an elective course. It is a year long commitment. Students must start band in 6th grade.
Beginning band is open to 6th graders only. Students do not need any experience to participate. Classes are split into brass and woodwinds. These students will participate in two concerts a year and are eligible to participate in the pep band. For more information about how to sign up, visit the prospective members page.
Intermediate band is open to 7th grade band students who have participated in one year of 6th grade band. Students must have participated in 6th grade band to enroll in 7th grade band. These students perform two major concerts a year, and also perform at the Pittsboro Tree Lighting Ceremony. 7th grade students are eligible to audition for jazz band, all honor bands, and they may participate in jazz lab during Discovery time.
Advanced band is open to 8th graders who have participated in two years of band classes. These students perform at Winter and Spring concerts, and also travel to perform at Music Performance Adjudication. 8th grade band students also participate in a Spring trip. Past locations have included Carowinds, Gatlinburg, and Disney World. 8th grade students are eligible to audition for jazz band, all honor bands, and they may participate in jazz lab during Discovery time.
