This screening takes place each spring, and results are sent home at the end of the school year. Any service recommendations begin the following school year.

What Does AIG Look Like at Chatham Grove Elementary?
AIG stands for Academically or Intellectually Gifted. The AIG program varies as students progress in their education. Students must go through AIG testing to qualify as an identified AIG student. Once identified as AIG, students keep this identification through 12th grade. Identified AIG Students in 4th and 5th grade are served in the regular classroom by the classroom teacher. Students are pulled out of regular classes by area of giftedness and/or Gator Academy. Students may take part in accelerated learning, problem-based learning, project-based learning, developing thinking skills, and working on critical thinking activities.
What is Talent Development?
The Talent Development (TD) program supports students who are showing gifted potential, but are not formally identified as gifted. AIG Specialists will use data to discover students with advanced abilities using various data sources, such as the Naglieri General Abilities Test (NGAT), classroom observation, demographics, and other standardized assessments. These data sources help to identify students with advanced thinking abilities who may benefit from talent development services. Talent development services are based on need and at the discretion of the AIG Specialist, and groups may change throughout the school year. These students might not participate in Talent Development next spring or next year. Participation in this program does not constitute labeling a child as academically or intellectually gifted (AIG). A goal is to move students toward formal identification. Thus, TD is a fluid program and students may come in or out of the Talent Development Program throughout a school year.
These students are served in the regular classroom by the classroom teacher. AIG Specialists support the classroom teacher by supplying or creating curriculum, co-teaching, and/or establishing specialized pull-out groups. These services include personalized instruction in math, reading, and thinking skills that develop their unique talents. Talent development sessions at CGE occur during Gator Academy, a block in the schedule for intervention and extra support services.
How Does a Student Get Identification?
All 2nd Grade students will participate in the AIG Universal Screener in the spring. This is the first step in the AIG Identification process. A referral is NOT needed to participate in this AIG screening.
3rd Graders who scored in the 88%+ on the Naglieri will automatically be referred by AIG for additional AIG testing for formal identification. This testing will take place in the spring of 2026.
Any student 3rd-5th grade may be referred to participate in the AIG testing process this spring 2026. Please see required criteria for AIG identification and download a referral form from the AIG website. The District allows three attempts for identification. It is recommended to wait until data supports advanced learning. The deadline for referral forms is January 6, 2026.
