CLS Middle School students have the opportunity to participate in a five-day program that brings Québécois culture, French-Canadian history and the charm of the French language to the plate! Students begin in Old Montreal where they will explore The Place Jacques Cartier, City Hall, Marché Bonsecours, and the Old Port. They'll retrace the steps that De Maisonneuve took to the top of the city's iconic Mont-Royal and make their way up to the Chalet de la Montagne for a stunning view of the greater Montreal area. Students will get creative putting their culinary skills to the test at Patro Villeray in a pizza-making workshop, then visit Cafe Graffiti where local graffiti artists show them how to create (legally!) their own urban masterpiece! Next up is Québec City where students will be guided through historic streets as they practice their French (or learn it for the first time!) and sample local poutine. At an authentic cabane à sucre, they will feast on a 17th Century meal, experience traditional songs and dances, and make their own maple butter. Students will finish their experience in Côte-de-Beaupré, learning about its deep agricultural roots running back to the First Nations and New France's earliest settlers in this area, visit Montmorency Falls, the tallest waterfalls in the Province, and finish with an evening dance boat cruise along the St. Lawrence admiring the Québec City coastline.
NOTE: This program will be offered every other year. The next opportunity will run in June 2029. Students do not have to be enrolled in French classes to participate in this trip.
