Congratulations! You have completed all the necessary hiring paperwork and actions, received your letter of appointment and your graduate faculty status notification, and now have access to your UNC Charlotte account. What happens next?
UNC Charlotte's Adjunct Faculty website at adjunct.charlotte.edu provides an overview of the information you need to know before you start. Review the points below for a summary of what you need to prepare as you begin your position.
All employees at UNC Charlotte are required to verify their eligibility to work in the United States by completing the I-9 form before they can be fully processed as an employee.
New employees must visit Human Resources in person at the King Building room 222 to complete I-9 verification and to finish the New Hire Packet forms. You must bring the forms required by HR listed on the New Employees page.
Your adjunct faculty ID card will be created after your HR visit. UNC Charlotte is now "Mobile First". Adjunct faculty will need to go to this link to download an electronic version of your UNC Charlotte ID: https://aux.charlotte.edu/49er-Mobile-ID The ID card lets you access classrooms and buildings, reserve materials from the university library, and add money to the card to purchase food on campus.
Visit the 49erID website for more information on how to use your card.
UNC Charlotte offers an online orientation for new adjunct faculty that provides an overview of university policies, guidelines, and resources. The orientation is located in Canvas and is assigned to you automatically when you are hired.
All UNC Charlotte employees are required to set up direct deposit to be paid. You will need to login to My UNC Charlotte and select Banner Self-Service to enroll. Follow the instructions listed on the Direct Deposit page to enroll.
Parking permits are required to park on campus all year. To view and purchase parking permit plans, visit pats.charlotte.edu.
PATS also offers Niner Paratransit, a disability transport for those with mobility impairments who are registered for the service and for temporary assistance (such as injuries).
The Special Education & Child Development Department is located in Mebane Hall, across from the Student Union. To view all buildings and navigate on campus, view the printable campus map before visiting.
You can also navigate campus with the Niner Transit bus service, which is fare-free.
At UNC Charlotte, adjuncts are paid based on their employee classification; classifications are determined by several factors:
Whether or not you are currently a permanent employee at UNC Charlotte.
Whether or not you are an employee of a North Carolina agency (that is not UNC Charlotte).
Whether or not 1 & 2 do not apply to you.
Based on these classifications, you will be paid in the following ways:
Adjuncts who are currently permanent employees are paid on a Special Pay form. Their work as adjuncts is considered "Supplemental Work."
Adjuncts who are currently employees of a North Carolina agency are paid on a CP-30 form and are classified as Dual Employment.
Adjuncts who are neither permanent employees of UNC Charlotte nor employees of another NC agency are hired as Part-Time Lecturers.
Just as classifications determine how you are paid, certain classifications also come with additional hiring requirements:
Current permanent employees of UNC Charlotte must get signed approval from their supervisors to work as adjuncts using the Supplemental University Employment form.
Dual Employment adjuncts who work for an NC agency are paid once at the end of the semester using a CP-30 form.
All adjuncts will receive an offer appointment detailing the courses and your salary for the semester you are teaching in.
The offer of appointment is also called an AA-15, and once you have reviewed and signed it in DocuSign, it will be used to complete your hiring paperwork which processes your salary.
