Faculty Eligibility:
Full-time faculty teaching a large enrollment course (70 or more students per section) without graduate assistant support -- or --
Faculty teaching a Prospect for Success designated course
Application for Funding:
The Office of Undergraduate Education provides funding for the preceptor program.
Around the midpoint of each semester, the application to request funding for the following semester opens. (Funding is only provided for fall and spring courses, not summer.)
Faculty submit a short application detailing how they plan to use preceptor support to promote academic success and active learning in the classroom.
The Office of Undergraduate Education reviews applications and notifies faculty of award decision within 3-4 weeks of application deadline.
Faculty must apply for funding each semester as funding is provided per semester, not per academic year.
Funding Practicalities and Faculty Expectations:
Typically, preceptors are funded for 100 hours across the semester and paid $12.50 per hour allowing them to work approximately 6-6.5 hours per week.
Preceptors are recruited and selected by faculty. The preceptor program does not provide or maintain a list of potential candidates for these positions.
Faculty should provide all necessary training in course content that the preceptor needs to be effective in the position. (The preceptor program hosts training prior to each semester that provides an overall orientation to the role, establishes expectations, and allows for preceptors to begin thinking about how they can use their strengths to impact student success. Preceptors also complete online training on general peer leader topics including FERPA, Title IX, effective communication, referrals, and self-care.)
