All members of the student body are eligible for membership into the BSU. All prospective members of the BSU are strongly encouraged to be cognizant of their origins or shall familiarize themselves with the culture, traditions, and lifestyle of the black community. Membership Benefits
Only due-paying members will be eligible to receive yearly BSU shirts and cords.
Only due-paying members will be allowed to qualify for any elected position within the kindred.
Only due-paying members who attend two general meetings and one community service will be eligible for active membership in BSU.
Each administration will define the benefits of the financial membership status as it relates to the activities of the particular administration.
Dues
To become a registered General Body Member (GBM), simply submit a $15 membership fee through the Black Student Union’s Cash App at $bsu1969. While membership dues are not required to attend BSU events, registered members gain access to exclusive benefits, which are detailed under the Membership Benefits section. What is a Freshman Representative?
The Black Student Union at UNC Charlotte designates two Freshman Representatives to serve as key voices for the freshman class. These representatives act as liaisons between first-year students and the BSU Executive Board, ensuring that the needs, concerns, and interests of their peers are effectively communicated and addressed. As active members of the Executive Board, Freshman Representatives hold the same rights and privileges as other board members and play an integral role in shaping BSU initiatives.
Their responsibilities include collaborating with the Vice President to develop programming specifically tailored to the freshman class, fostering engagement and community among first-year students. Additionally, they assist in executing the duties of the broader Executive Board, contributing to the success of BSU’s events, advocacy efforts, and organizational goals. Through this role, Freshman Representatives gain valuable leadership experience while making a meaningful impact on the Black student community at UNC Charlotte.
Section 3. Membership Rights
Only due-paying members will be allowed to qualify for any elected position within the kindred;
The Executive Board is expected to:
Attend all scheduled meetings, retreat(s), and delegated/voluntarily confirmed BSU-related matters on time and for their full duration.
Adhere to all duties as outlined under the respective office descriptions.
Keep confidential all passwords/passcodes, bank information, access to the BSU Office, and any other sensitive information.
Section 15. Office of Freshman Representatives
There will be two Freshman Representatives who shall have the power and responsibility to:
Be a member of the freshman class and shall serve as the liaison between the freshman class and the BSU;
Be an active member of the Executive Board with all rights and privileges as each member.
Conduct programming alongside the Vice President geared towards the freshman class
Assist with the carrying out of the duties of the rest of the Executive Board

Freshman at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Possesses tangible skills that contribute to leadership, collaboration, and community engagement.
Available on Tuesdays from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Passionate about community involvement and dedicated to making a meaningful impact.

Position Requirements
Each Executive Board position has specific responsibilities and requirements that must be met. Interested applicants are encouraged to review the BSU Constitution for detailed descriptions of each role before applying. The constitution outlines the expectations, duties, and qualifications for every position.
Eligibility Criteria
Must be a currently enrolled student at UNC Charlotte.
Demonstrate leadership, advocacy, and a commitment to community engagement.
Exhibit strong organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
Be prepared to fulfill all responsibilities outlined in the BSU Constitution.
General Responsibilities & Expectations
Attend and actively participate in all Executive Board meetings and BSU-sponsored events.
Develop and implement programming that aligns with BSU’s mission.
Serve as a liaison between BSU and the student body, campus organizations, and university administration.
Uphold the values and integrity of BSU in all endeavors.
