Taking a Trauma-Informed, Person-Centered Lens to Substance Use Prevention and Intervention with Teens

In this interactive workshop participants can expect to review and 1) discuss recent data on adolescent substance use, 2) identify and discuss possible signs and symptoms of substance use in teens, 3) discuss common comorbidities and the importance of integrated care approaches, 4) discuss the impact of trauma and intersection with substance use; 5) review and apply trauma-informed, person-centered, and integrated treatment approaches and tools; 6) engage in clinical applicable discussions regarding the reality of the work through thought-partnership; 7) review the importance of radical wellness for the workforce.
Dr. Angela M. Tunno is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor whose area of specialty include clinical, research, advocacy, policy, and restorative justice efforts focused on the impact of trauma for youth, adults, and families. In addition, she has a specific clinical and research focus on the intersection of trauma exposure and high-risk behavior (e.g., suicidal thoughts/behavior, substance use). Collaboration; partnering with youth, families, and adults; and cultural humility are at the foundation of her clinical, research, systems, and community work. She values true partnership and the importance of community-led efforts to build collective methods to prevention and intervention.
