Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!
Each school serving students in grades kindergarten through fifth grade must prepare, submit to the district, and post on its website prior to the start of each year an implementation plan aligned with the district reading proficiency plan to enable the district to monitor and support implementation at the school level. The school plan must be a component of the school’s strategic plan required by Section 59‑18‑1310. A school implementation plan shall be sufficiently detailed to provide practical guidance for classroom teachers. Proposed strategies for assessment, instruction, and other activities specified in the school plan must be sufficient to provide to classroom teachers and other instructional staff helpful guidance that can be related to the critical reading and writing needs of students in the school. In consultation with the School Improvement Council, each school must include in its implementation plan the training and support that will be provided to parents as needed to maximize their promotion of reading and writing by students at home and in the community. Amplify CKLA is our newly adopted ELA curriculum. We began implementing this curriculum in the 2024-2025 school year.
Amplify Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) is a language arts program for Grades K-5 that combines a multi-sensory approach to phonics with rich texts carefully sequenced to build content knowledge -- so that students learn to read and read to learn at the same time.
Every day in Grades K-2, students complete one full lesson that builds foundational reading skills, as well as one full lesson that builds background knowledge. In Grades 3-5, students start to master the skills of reading, further opening up their worlds.
Grounded in the Science of Reading
As the original Science of Reading program, Amplify CKLA puts research into action with explicit, systematic foundational skills instruction and a proven knowledge-building sequence.
Amplify CKLA follows the Core Knowledge Sequence, a content-specific, cumulative, and coherent approach to knowledge building. This approach improves reading scores and closes achievement gaps by establishing a robust knowledge base that strengthens comprehension.
Students progress from simple to complex skill development starting with phonological and phonemic awareness. Instruction in Grades K-2 explicitly teaches the 150 spellings for the 44 sounds of English, following an intentional progression to ensure student success.
Grounded in the Science of Writing--the research on how kids learn to write--instruction is explicit, daily, and woven into the curriculum's rich content. It covers both transcription (handwriting and spelling) and composition (organizing ideas into narrative) with high-impact activities like sentence-level combining and expanding, and pre-writing exercises. Writing and reading instruction are integrated so students simultaneously strengthen their communication skills, comprehension, and confidence.
Amplify CKLA students are immersed in a variety of texts--complex read-alouds, decodable chapter books, trade books, and content-rich readers--that reflect varied experiences and connect to learning goals.
Readers are 100% decodable for Grades K-2, empowering students to directly apply what they've learned. Novel Study units for Grades 3-5 offer a mix of contemporary and classic literature, and Culminating Research Units in every grade include a set of authentic texts and trade books.
Scaffolds and challenges developed in collaboration with education experts make content accessible to every student, including multilingual and English learners. With strategies embedded right in the curriculum, teachers can deliver in-the-moment, individualized instruction to meet diverse student needs.
CKLA Caregiver Hub: Through the Caregiver Hub, CKLA has assembled extensive resources and guides to help you support your student and enable them to have the most productive experience. Additionally, you will learn how to access the CKLA Hub for students. Once logged into Clever, students can access and engage with multimedia resources on the CKLA Hub. Students can use these digital resources independently from anywhere, taking full advantage of the instructional multimedia experiences that Amplify CKLA has to offer. Check out the Caregiver Hub to learn more!
Program Guide Knowledge Map: This PDF explores all knowledge units presented across each grade (K-5). It details how students make connections across grades....not only growing from week to week, but year to year.
Foundational Skills: This PDF outlines the progression of foundational skills across each grade (K-5). Follow the grid to determine when various print concepts, phonological awareness skills, phonics and word recognition concepts, and grammar skills are presented in each grade.
Simple View of Writing: This PDF details how composition and transcription through the Knowledge and Skills Strands, respectively, in Grades K-2 promotes Skilled Writing in Grades 3-5.
Research Trade Books: The culminating unit in every grade is a dedicated Research Unit that includes carefully selected trade books. Instruction models inquiry and research, with students conducting independent research that includes topic selection, using primary and secondary sources, and presenting their project. This PDF details the culminating unit in each grade and trade book choices.
