Academic Work
Academic Expectations
We at Montessori Community School hold high expectations for all of our students, as citizens of their community and academic scholars. We expect all students to complete and turn in high-quality, thoughtful work, by the end of the scheduled course time or by the posted deadline.
Late Work Policy
Work will be given to students with the expectation that it is to be completed by the end of the class period, or by the posted deadline. Any work not turned in by the deadline is considered late. This includes work that was not completed during an unexcused absence.
Once work is considered late, the teacher will deduct 5% points from the final grade for each school day past the due date. If any assignment is turned in past the 10 school day late period, the maximum grade for that assignment is 50%.
Late work will be accepted before the quarterly grading deadline. Work must be complete in order to receive any credit and the maximum grade for any assignment is 50%. If the work is not complete or not turned in by the end of the quarter, the grade will be a "0."
Assignments will be graded in the order in which they are received. Work turned in on time will be given priority over assignments turned in late.
If a child misses school with an unexcused absence, the teacher will not provide work during the absence period. There will be no virtual lessons or virtual instruction. The student will turn the work in when they return to school and earn a late penalty.
If a child misses school with an excused absence, the student will have 2 school days for every 1 absent day to turn in the work and not earn a late penalty. - Per CCSD Policy
Progress Reports/Report Cards
If an assignment was due before progress reports are generated, and the assignment was not turned in, a "0" will be given on the progress report. The assignment may be turned in late and the grade will be changed in PowerSchool and the subsequent quarterly report card, but not on the progress report.
All work must be turned in before the grading deadline for report cards. Late work will not be accepted after the quarterly grading deadline, due to district and state requirements.
Study Hall
In an effort to support students with work completion and time management, teachers will provide admin weekly with a list of students who have a grade below a 70 in their core academic classes, as a result of missing assignments.
These students will participate in a study hall, monitored by admin, every Friday from 11:30-1:00. This study hall will happen in addition to the daily independent work times built into the adolescent schedule.
