We are grateful for our partnership with Dog & Duck, which provides valuable Community Based Instruction (CBI) opportunities for our students. Through visits and hands-on experiences at the restaurant, students are able to practice real-world job and life skills in an authentic community setting.
During their time at Dog & Duck, students work on skills such as following directions, communication, organizing supplies, maintaining a clean workspace, and understanding the routines of a restaurant environment. These experiences help students build confidence, develop independence, and gain a better understanding of workplace expectations.
Community partnerships like the one we have with Dog & Duck are an important part of our program. They allow students to connect classroom learning with meaningful experiences in the community while exploring potential career pathways in the food service and hospitality industry.
We are thankful to the team at Dog & Duck for welcoming our students and helping create opportunities for them to learn, grow, and succeed.
As part of his work-based learning opportunity at MUSC, Lucy Beckham High School student Jeremiah Nelson assisted with this year’s Angel Tree initiative. Angel Tree cards for children across the Lowcountry were thoughtfully selected from the MUSC East Cooper Pavilion tree by patients and employees. Jeremiah helped collect and load the donated gifts at MUSC, which were then delivered downtown to the Salvation Army following the Christmas parade. Jermiah felt a deep sense of joy and pride in helping ensure these Christmas gifts reached the children who will receive them this season.
We are proud to highlight our partnership with Vocational Rehabilitation, located in North Charleston, which provides our students with valuable Work-Based Learning and job skills training opportunities.
Through this collaboration, students participate in hands-on training at the Vocational Rehabilitation facility in North Charleston. At the facility, businesses that partner with Vocational Rehabilitation bring their products to the warehouse as part of a packaging program. This allows students to participate in authentic work tasks such as sorting, assembling, and packaging products while learning the routines and expectations of a structured work environment.
In addition to the packaging program, students also receive job skills training at the facility. These training experiences help students practice important workplace skills such as following directions, working as part of a team, staying organized, managing time, and completing tasks with accuracy and consistency.
These experiences help students build confidence, develop independence, and gain a clearer understanding of workplace expectations as they prepare for future employment.
We are grateful for our partnership with Vocational Rehabilitation and for their continued support in helping our students develop the skills they need for success in the workforce.

We applaud Jeremiah for his professionalism, growth, and dedication as he gains real-world experience in a career field he is excited to pursue!
