In late January of 2024, the team went again to Immaculate Conception Elementary, one of the local elementary schools that we had presented at the previous year.
Our team reached out at the beginning of our season to see if the school would want us to come back and talk to their 5th and 6th graders again. The school said that they wanted us back and we got to work.
The presentation was another smashing success. As we smoothly cruised through with good reaction, we labeled the afternoon as another victory.
The FLL team that was started as a result of 2023's presentation did an amazing job at their competitions. They achieved 1st place at the state level in their rookie year.
In early November of 2023, our team was asked by our regional supervisor to be a sponsor for one of the new teams in our area. The team was not too far away and our coach quickly responded that we would be willing to do it. We then set up a time with that school to talk to some of their classes about what FIRST is and what we do in our team.
In early October, our team's leadership unit took our previous year's robot and went to talk with them.
It was a successful endeavor and the school decided to continue with the setting up of a team.
We are ecstatic to be able to help a new team get started in our area, and we hope to be able to do more of this kind of outreach in the future.
In January and February of 2023, Ten of our team members went to IC (Immaculate Conception) Elementary School, and Lincoln Elementary School in the hopes of inspiring the next generation in the path towards STEM and Robotics.
The members gave a presentation on FIRST, Robotics, and STEM, and how they can use STEM in their everyday lives. Then each of the members led a group of students trying to make the best marble run as they could in the time provided.
The presentations had the desired effect with one of the schools starting a First Lego League team in the following year.
The team participated in Party in the Park (a community event put on by the city during the summer) by having a booth in Central Park. We brought that season's robot for the community to have a chance to stop by and drive. The community got a sample of how to drive our robot and learn what we do as a team, as well as what that year's competition was and how we tackled the challenge.
