Unit Assessment/Tests/Labs - 50%:
A summative assessment will be given at the conclusion of every unit. This may include tests, essays, experiments, projects or oral presentations. Pre-lab assessments and post lab reports will be completed for the majority of labs. You will be given a lab report format to follow and the CHS scoring rubric for lab report writing. Not every lab will be a formal lab report. These guides must be followed. If you are absent when a test is scheduled, you will take the tests the very next day you are in class or guided study. Tests may NOT be revised. Labs can be revised once for grade up to 80%. Must be done within 2 weeks of receipt of grade.
Quizzes and classwork - 40%
This counts as any work that is done in class and is collected for a grade. Quizzes are short formative assessments used to check understanding of individual topics. Students who are not successful on quizzes will be allowed to retake the quiz and earn up to 70% following an approved re-teaching session with the class instructor. Students must first complete the quiz retake criteria. These revisions must take place prior to the unit test on that material.
Homework - 10%
Homework includes practice problems, on-demand written responses to assigned readings, and responses to homework.
Homework is given when it is appropriate so the amount of homework will NOT be same each day/week. Types of homework can include answering questions, reading and responding to articles, solving practice problems, watching videos, etc. Homework is expected on its due date. Students who do not turn in the assignment on time will have the opportunity to submit it by the next class period for half credit. Homework submitted past this time will not receive credit.
Midterm and Final ~ 20% of Semester Grade - Major Course Assessment: given toward the end of each semester. It is a large cumulative assessment which students need to pass with at least a 70% to earn credit for the course One revision is allowed according to school policy.

What is Mastery Learning?
Assignments & Grading Policies: As a way to make learning purposeful and to create an environment where all learners know exactly where their knowledge on the content is, I have decided to move to a mastery based way of grading. In class we will focus on the following language for depth of understanding and percentage grades. This chart] shows where the percentages fall into the wording.
