This past summer, I worked with HBS (Host Broadcast Services), FIFA's official host broadcaster, supporting the Commentary Control Room for World Cup broadcasts and running first-level quality checks on every commentary feed before it went to air. I helped set up and test commentary positions, wired in equipment, and coordinated with commentators before kickoff, then spent matchdays alongside the Commentary Manager, ensuring that the Commentary Control Units routed feeds correctly to broadcasters worldwide. That environment taught me valuable skills that I plan to carry into my reporting: how to make quick calls under a deadline that doesn't move, how to check my own work without slowing anyone else down, and how to trust the people around me when the stakes are real.
