WHAT IS THE TSIA TEST?
The Texas Success Initiative Assessment, better know as the TSI test, is a program which determines the appropriate level of college course work for an incoming student. The TSIA test consists of two separate exams: Mathematics and Reading/Writing. The TSIA is a PLACEMENT test, NOT an entrance exam!
SO WHAT'S CONSIDERED COLLEGE READY?
Reading/Writing Test:
Score of 945-990 + Essay score of 5
OR
Score of 910-944, a diagnostic score of 5 or 6, & essay score of 5-8
Math Test:
Score of 950
OR
Score of 910-949 + a diagnostic score of 6
YOU MUST PASS THE READING/WRITING TSIA TEST IN ORDER TO TAKE DUAL CREDIT ENGLISH CLASSES & PASS THE MATH TSIA TEST IN ORDER TO TAKE DUAL CREDIT COLLEGE ALGEBRA!
Every student taking any section of the TSIA must participate in a Pre-Assessment Activity (PAA)
This has to be done at least 24 hours BEFORE you take the TSIA test!
Channing ISD will take students to the Frank Phillips College campus in Dalhart to take the TSIA test.

TSIA Waiver vs. TSIA Exemption:
TSIA Waiver = TSIA waived until successfully completing a college course with a "C" or better in these areas. (Waivers only apply to high school students taking dual credit or early admissions courses.)
TSIA Exemption = TSIA complete in these areas
PSAT (TSIA waiver) - 500 reading, 500 math, combined 1070
STAAR EOC (TSIA waiver) - English 2 scale score of 4000 for TSIA reading/writing; Algebra I EOC scale score of 4000 + "C" or better in high school Algebra 2 for TSIA math
ACT (TSI exemption) - 19 English/composite of 23 for TSIA Writing; 19 math/composite of 23 for TSIA math
SAT (TSI exemption) - 480 English for TSIA Writing; 530 math for TSIA math
