The Channing Division of Network Medicine Computer Infrastructure consists of a VMWare deployment using a high performance Tintri datastor. This houses systems in the web cluster, ~90 node compute cluster and directory servers and login servers.

SERVICES

IT Infrastructure consists of primarily RHEL family of linux servers
2.4 PB multitiered scale out NAS storage system
Data archiving to tape is performed monthly
Software tools, web services, methods, and infrastructure support for sequencing, gene expression, genotyping and association studies
Large scale bioinformatics infrastructure, including a laboratory information management system (LIMS) that supports the Cohorts Biorepository and Systems Genetics and Genomics Laboratory.
Data processing pipelines to support large team of researches and statisticians

Production and Development Oracle servers
Production and Development MySQL servers

Storage

2 PB Isilon cluster with 8 X-series nodes, 4 NL nodes and 3 S-series nodes.
2 PB of Quantum Lattus object store is used to supplement the storage capacity.
80TB Qumulo installation to serve large file needs in the compute cluster

Backups

Servers are backed up using Dell EMC Networker.
Data is backed up using Quantum Artico Archive.
Files are snapshot on a daily and/or weekly basis. Once a month a copy of the changes from the previous month are duplicated and sent off site as a precaution against site loss.

Cloud Services

CDNM has a private cloud that has been deployed using Eucalyptus Private cloud. There are ~600 cores in the cloud. Nodes may be provisioned using the Cumulus Web application developed at Channing to ease the learning curve for Researchers looking to design applications or pipelines that utilize the cloud.

Security Aspects

CDNM adheres to Partners Security policies. The servers are regularly scanned to ensure configurations and applications have current patch levels.

Docker at CDNM

CDNM has recently deployed a Docker infrastructure consisting of Docker Engines for dev, test and production. The division has its own Docker repository, Jenkins server and Github enterprise server to help support a healthy software development life cycle.

CDNM systems staff are working diligently in the following areas:

Replace Eucalyptus Cloud with Openstack.
Increase cloud footprint to public cloud providers.
Auto-archive, to automatically archive files of a certain size and date to help save on storage fees for our users.
Extend Docker deployment to compute resources to allow containerized pipeline deployments
