16th June 2023 - Father's Day Smoothie Workshop
A fun day was had with children and their dads, grandads, mums and grandmas making healthy fruit smoothies using the 'smoothie bike' with Odette from Forest Schools Birmingham. After some sm-oga to help us limber up, the children prepared the ingredients before the adults climbed on to the smoothie bike to begin blending. All enjoyed fresh healthy smoothies before making 'fruity' cards to sweeten somebody's day.
5th May 2023 - Coronation Wreath Making Workshop
Children and parents enjoyed a Coronation wreath making workshop with Yoke in readiness for the coronation celebrations of King Charles III. The garden was decorated in bunting, with tea and coronation cakes enjoyed by all. And the rain held off for us.
MARCH - Community Flower drop - Making Kingstanding 'blooming beautiful'
Groups of children from years 3 and 5, battled the terrible weather to deliver the pots of flowers to the local community. The children left the flowers on the doorsteps of the residents around Hornsey Road and Peckham Road as an Easter gift and to encourage people to take care of their environment.
The children felt very positive about their community work.
Kree - "I feel good doing something kind."
Rayah - "Giving something beautiful makes people happy."
Louis - "I feel kind because we are giving something back."
Feedback from the community has also been really positive. Some of the responses that we received...
'Thank you to all children that left beautiful plant on my door step. Really touched my heart xxx'
'Thank you all for our beautiful flowers. What a lovely surprise . Thank you all at Kings Rise !!! Happy Easter Everyone'
'Thank you for my lovely flowers, you have made my day.'
'It is my birthday today. You have made my day even more special. Thank you'
'A few days ago my nan received a beautiful plant from some of the students at your school. It really brightened her day! Thank you, it's a brilliant idea!'
MARCH 2023 - Community Litter picking and planting - Making Kingstanding 'blooming beautiful!'
At Kings Rise we have been working as a school to improve our local environment.
Following a local walk by our Nursery Class, who were disgusted by the litter they saw after learning about 'Looking after the planet', the Eco-council decided they wanted to do something to improve our locality. So we went out into the streets to collect litter to make our community cleaner. We then planted flowers, shrubs and trees around our school grounds and potted plants to give to the community in the hope of encouraging residents to help to make Kingstanding a nicer, cleaner place to live. Many residents came out of their houses to say 'thank you' and to clap our efforts.
