HEALTH, DIVERSITY AND ASPIRATION are the key themes that inform all aspects of learning at Kings RIse Academy.
At Kings Rise Academy we have the unique resource of the KRAKEN garden as an outdoor learning environment to extend and support the curriculum and to enrich the well-being and experiences of all children. The garden area is a combination of curriculum-based learning with a Forest School ethos that brings fun, engagement and learning in a different context to all children, from Nursery to Year 6. Children enjoy spending time with their peers and with staff participating in practical activities, investigations and experiments, learning new skills while applying their class based knowledge. Vocabulary and communication is central to the learning process within the garden. Children are encouraged to be world ready by developing their skills in awareness, independence, reflection, teamwork, organisation and resilience.
The KRAKEN project 2021 - 2022
During 2021-22 (the year of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games) we saw the development of a derelict waste area on the school grounds converted into a beautiful outdoor learning area for the children, staff, parents and community to enjoy. With the incredible help of Nick Wale and his team from Forest Schools Birmingham, the area was transformed into an allotment area with raised beds and a green house for growing our own fruits and vegetables; a commonwealth garden with examples of plants and flowers from across the Commonwealth; a wildflower meadow to encourage a variety of bees, butterflies and insects to the garden; a lawned area with a fire circle and Willow Terrace an area designed with local artists to celebrate the inclusion of women's cricket in the Commonwealth Games for the first time.
