Despite Netflix having many original shows, many of them slip under the radar because the streaming service hardly promotes them. Because of this, amazing new shows like “Jentry Chau Vs. The Underworld” go unacknowledged. “Jentry Chau” is a serialized animated dark comedy created by Echo Wu. It stars a high schooler named Jentry Chau, who fights demons from the Underworld with her magical powers while also trying to maintain a normal life. This article will shine light on this brand new animated show, so it can get the attention it deserves.
The show does a fantastic job at making the audience connect with the characters and story quickly. Jentry is a charming and relatable main character that is written in a way that makes us sympathetic towards her and root for her whenever she faces obstacles. The unique side characters also make this show feel more alive. Jentry’s friends and her great aunt, Gugu, have their own individual stories that are just as interesting as Jentry’s. The comedy between these characters are another key factor in why this is a good cast. They make us care about the relationships between them and even make us feel a part of them. However, the cast isn’t the only reason to watch the show. The gorgeous and unique animation is another great factor to the show.
The art style is very appealing to the eyes and compliments the character designs well. The character designs as well are very impressive. The designs on the humans and demons are all so unique and make every frame a feast for the eyes. The lighting on the characters is also very satisfying to see. It gives the show a very distinct and beautiful type of cinematography. However, artstyle isn’t all there is to animation, there’s also movement. Fortunately for “Jentry Chau”, the choreography and movements in the fights are excellently done. The way the characters move in fights keeps your eyes glued to the screen. Scenes like this help make the show very exciting. But another help in these scenes in making them engaging is the show’s soundtrack.
The original score, which was composed by Brian Kim, has a very modern and techno feel to it. It fits the show’s vibes and elevates the emotional scenes. Additionally, the original songs in the background are just as incredible. When they play during fights, they make them more exciting. When they play during comedic scenes, they make them entertaining. And when they play during sad scenes, they make them more emotional. All of these songs are catchy and beautiful in their own ways and help add the identity of the show by intensifying the emotions of the overarching story.
Every event that happens in this show is built on the overarching story. The story mostly revolves around the grand plans of the demons in the underworld and the mysteries behind Jentry’s past and her powers. To say anymore would be giving too much away. Which is why you should check out the show for yourself to get answers. This show has intriguing mysteries, entertaining characters, stellar animation, and catchy music. All of these factors create a fantastic show that deserves more attention than it's currently getting. The show has 13 episodes and is currently on Netflix. Give it a watch, and maybe the “Jentry Chau” fandom will grow bigger. 🐾
