Sometimes our parents will ask us “What movies do kids your age like?” but that’s a hard question to answer. With so many different opinions out there, it can be difficult to know what media is popular within our age range. This article will give readers answers to what are the most popular movies and TV shows at CHAMPS Charter High School of the Arts as of right now.
To get feedback from students in our school, I conducted a survey. When creating it, I limited the selection of movies and shows to those released in 2024. Including new seasons of already existing shows. I only provided a few suggestions but allowed students to write their own choices for their 2024 releases. The survey was answered by 52 students. In this article, we’ll go over what movies were chosen, how many people chose them, and why they chose them.
On the first question, which asked about movies, 10 people answered “None of these”. “Inside Out 2” got 13 votes. Quotes from the people that picked this one included “Because it showed how kids' mindset can change once they get to their teen years and it was so beautifully executed.” “This was my favorite movie because i liked the message of how growing up means feeling new emotions, and that you should embrace your true self”.
“Despicable Me 4” was voted 6 times and was called a very fun watch by the voters. “A Quiet Place: Day One” got 3 votes and many of the voters who picked it were fans of the first movie in the franchise and found this one to be an interesting watch.
Finally, “Deadpool & Wolverine” was picked by 21 students. The ones who chose it explained “I liked Deadpool and Wolverine's sense of humor. I laughed through the whole movie, especially at the different weird multiverse versions of Deadpool.” “It made the cinematic universe of Marvel come back to life from having bad movies/tv shows and it was just such an amazing movie” .
Some other movies that weren’t on the survey, but were picked by students were “Maxxine”, “!”, “I Saw the TV Glow” and “Challengers”. After answering the movie questions, the students gave their answers for their favorite TV show.
For the TV show question, 30 people answered “None of these” to the suggestions given. Some of these people gave their own answers, but most said that no new shows interested them this year. “X-Men 97” got 2 votes, “My Hero Academia: Season 7” got 1 vote, and “Jurassic World: Chaos Theory” got 2 votes.
“Delicious in Dungeon” A.K.A “Dungeon Meshi” was voted by three people. The people that chose this one explained “because it has excellent worldbuilding and plot. all the character designs are different and tell you something about the person” “I liked the plot, the story, and how the food looked” . “The Boys: Season 4” got 3 votes, and was said to have a really good story by the people who voted for it.
For the last show that was suggested, “Smiling Friends: Season 2” was voted by 11 different people. These people explained their love of the show by saying “It is hilarious and is something I can watch without using my brain” “I love their animations, art style, and voice actors.” “ I like the varying animation styles and the comedy. it's very funny and I enjoyed watching it”.
Some other shows that were suggested by students were “The Bear: Season 3”, “Futurama: Season 12”, “3 Body Problem”, and “Sweet Tooth: Season 3”. With survey results calculated, the answers for the most popular movie and tv show became clear.
As of September 2024, the most popular movie at CHAMPS right now is “Deadpool & Wolverine”! Students seem to love how this film made them not just laugh, but incredibly excited to see these characters on the big screen. A big factor that probably played into this film's popularity is the hype around the existing characters and the fact that the “Deadpool” movies seem to just be aiming for our demographic in terms of comedy.
And for the most popular TV show right now, the winner is “Smiling Friends: Season 2.” The first season was incredibly popular, so many students were looking forward to this long-awaited second season, and it did not disappoint fans. The ones who voted for it love these characters and the way the voice actors perform them. It also seemed to connect with a lot of students because of the type of wacky, random, yet also very clever comedy it writes.
Hopefully, this article will give you answers the next time people ask you “what do kids your age watch nowadays,” because now you have a multitude of answers.🐾
