Seasons influence a lot of fashion, not only because of aesthetics but also because of weather. As we are entering a new season, fall, I’d like to rewind and talk about fall fashion during the 90s. Fashion Week is approaching, and today's runways could be influenced by 90s fashion. I will share some of my favorite moments from the 90s, an iconic fashion era.
Naomi Campbell’s fall during Vivienne Westwood’s runway Fall/Winter 1993, for the “Anglomania” collection
Kate Moss, Gucci Fall 1996 Ready-to-Wear Collection
Trish Goff, Calvin Klein Fall 1999, Teresa Lourenco, Calvin Klein Fall 1999
Shalom Harlow, Versace Fall 1993, Michele Hicks, Prada Fall 1996
Claudia Schiffer, Chanel Fall 1992, Naomi Campbell, Chanel Fall 1992
Kate Moss, Versace Fall 1996, Valeria Mazza & Karen Mulder, Versace Fall 1996
Amber Valletta, Gucci Fall 1995, Jason Lewis, Gucci Fall 1995
Tom Ford (Creative Director of Gucci 1994-2004) walking at the end of the runway of Gucci 2004 Spring/Summer Collection presented in October 2003
Tom Ford, who now owns his own brand ‘TOM FORD’, directed Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) before launching his brand. He is responsible for amazing collections that have greatly influenced the fashion industry. Tom Ford brought a new perspective to fashion; even though a lot of his campaigns and concepts were controversial, there is no denial that he was ahead of his time. A true genius.
Supermodels are an important part of how a collection is taken in and the success of the fashion label. If they do an excellent job, their influence can be jaw-dropping. One example is Naomi Campbell, who changed the perception of beauty in the fashion industry and paved the way for other black models. Notably, she was the first black model on a French Vogue cover. 🐾
