Wing Me Up Review
By Lulu Sobel
Wing Me Up (phone number (818) 387-6767) is a casual chicken restaurant located at 6855 Van Nuys Boulevard. Open 11am-10pm, they serve chicken wings of all sorts. They offer takeout, which is popular among my peers, as well as delivery and dine-in options.
It’s very chill inside with the wide windows overlooking the street and movies playing on the TV. I found it a nice place to eat and/or work.
After school I decided to check out this place. Though this isn't a restaurant I typically go to, I have eaten their fries and chicken before at school.
When I arrived I was sort of nervous because I didn’t know if they were open, but I entered anyway. They were in fact, open, though at the moment the only people there were two cashiers/cooks, plus an adult and child sitting at one of the tables, which made things more lively. Generally, though the energy was very relaxed.
My server was friendly and helpful. When I spilled my drink they handled it calmly. I asked for their recommendations to which they suggested sticky garlic wings; which I enjoyed. They were very patient with me, despite my indecision. It took about 7 minutes to receive my food.
I did not want to spend too much money, but I also wanted to get a satisfying amount of food (bang for my buck, as it were). I ordered a 3 wing combo, bones in, for $7.45 (sticky garlic flavor) which came with three chicken wings, a very large side of fries, ranch, celery and a drink. The wings were hot and delicious, spicy but sweet. The fries were just as delicious as the ones I stole from my friends’ takeout. The ranch sauce cuts through the hot temperature of the chicken and the fries, creating a delicious combo. Three chicken wings did not seem like they would be very filling, but combined with the fries made a very satisfying meal. The celery was a nice touch, adding some freshness and a different type of crunch to contrast the chicken. The amount of fries was overwhelming, so I took the rest home with me. I now understand why people who go there end up sharing their fries.
Eating their food at school honestly feels like a community bonding experience, which is lovely. The atmosphere was nice and I recommend this restaurant!🐾
