Fall 2025 out now!
The Theories of Taylor Swift's New Album
By Alicia Avalos
On Sunday, February 4th, pop megastar Taylor Swift announced her brand new album, THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT after winning her 13th Grammy award for best pop vocal album for her album Midnights at the 2024 Grammy Awards. Later that same night, she won her 14th Grammy for Album Of The Year.
This shocked people around the globe, especially fans of Taylor Swift. Many of them had theories that she was going to release “Taylor’s Version” of her award winning album Reputation. “Taylor’s Version” means that Taylor Swift re-records her album(s) that she doesn’t own, so that way she can own her own music.
Taylor Swift has re-recorded four of her six ‘stolen’ albums: Fearless, Red, Speak Now, and 1989. Taylor’s albums were stolen when all of her music was sold to Scooter Braun. Fans have been theorizing about the announcements of each of her albums since she released her first “Taylor’s Version” last year. There have been widespread theories about Reputation for months now, and many Swifties thought February 4th was going to be the day she would announce it, because earlier that day she had changed her profile picture to a black and white version of her Midnights album cover, which is the theme for Reputation. In a shocking turn of events she announced a brand new album, THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT which also has a black and white album cover.
Shortly after she posted an announcement on her instagram account and changed her profile picture to match her new album cover. She added the samepost to her story in an instagram highlights folder with the title “White Heart Emoji,” but nobody was expecting her to drop a new album this soon. Many had speculated that she would announce her new album after “The Eras Tour” because this tour was her “Midnights Era” and announcing one album while touring another is very uncommon.
The day after her announcement she released the track list for her new album. Many people are speculating that THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT is going to be similar to her album Folklore because of the similar black and white color scheme and the line “take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die” from the song “The Lakes”,a bonus track on Folklore. People are also wondering if the songs are going to be similar to her Reputation album because they were expecting her to re-release it. Many fans are excited for this new edition to the Taylor Swift collection. 🐾
