By Jullian Cauntay
With a busy year for Pokémon coming to a close with the release of the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Indigo Disk DLC (and Teal Mask in September), people were abuzz with what’s in store for Pokémon in 2024.
Scarlet and Violet
For Pokémon's 28th Anniversary, the company released a 12 minute video outlining and teasing future games and updated content for their existing titles, starting with the announcement of Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard Terra Raid battles for the month of March, giving players the chance to catch the iconic Generation 1 starters in Scarlet and Violet.
Mobile Titles
Pokémon Go came next, announcing a collaboration event with the English release of the Pokémon Horizons series, adding Sprigatito, Fuecoco, Quaxley, and a special event Captain Hat Pikachu with the move Volt Tackle to the game.
Johto’s Legendary Beasts (Raikou, Entei, and Suicune) also make their big debut in Pokémon Sleep. Pokémon Sleep allows you to encounter a wide array of sleeping Pokémon by tracking your sleep.
Geeta and her partner Glimmora, Silver (Champion) and Tyranitar, and Sygna Suit Gladion and Magearna will all make their first appearances in Pokémon Masters EX 4.5 year anniversary. This event coincides with the introduction of a long awaited photo creator feature in the game. Pokémon Masters EX allows you to battle through a story by recruiting and playing as famous mainline series trainers and their partner Pokémon!
Additionally, Scarlet and Violet’s mascots Koraidon and Miraidon as well as Gimmighoul will all be made available to recruit in Pokémon Cafe Remix’s upcoming Paldea event. Pokémon Cafe Remix is a charming puzzle cafe game run completely by Pokémon!
And finally, Miraidon, Falinx, and Ceruledge units will all be made playable in the PVP arena game, Pokémon Unite’s upcoming update.
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket
The Pokémon Company announced a new app all about the Pokémon TCG! It concerns collecting and trading virtual versions of the playable card game. The new game will include battle mechanics as well as special interactions for collectible special illustration rare cards.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A
No Pokémon Presents is ever complete with the announcement of a new mainline series game! This year did not disappoint with the announcement of the long awaited continuation of the Pokémon X and Y games released in 2013, Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The announcement came with the confirmation that the Pokémon Legends format of games will not be a one-off thing with the initial release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus in 2022. The clip teased that the new game will be set in Lumiose City and its plot is concerned with an “urban development plan” for the largest city in the Kalos region. The video did not give too much information, but we can assume that the new game will dive deeper into the lore of the legendary Pokémon Zygarde. The “ambitious” new title is set to release in 2025, with no concrete date set in stone.🐾
