The Champlain Report

March 28, 2018:

The news is everywhere. No matter where you go, you are surrounded by it. You turn on the TV and switch the channel to CNN. Your phone pings and it’s a news article from our news aggulator app. You go on Twitter and the the top news stories are trending. It’s amazing how much news there is out there, and thanks to social media, we can get that news faster and quicker than ever.

But once upon a time, there was no Internet, no televisions. Most people got their news from either the daily newspapers, or from the radio. We have become attached to visuals, drawn to the news stories on TV and the headlining pictures online. But there’s something unique about listening to someone’s voice reporting the news rather than watch it. With the radio, you can’t see the action, but you can probably imagine it in your head. You can’t see what’s going on in the world, but you can hear it. Sometimes all it takes to change your worldview is a single voice, and it can be powerful when it does.

That’s partially why I proposed News From The Dam to the Champlain Wave. In our current state of affairs, where people are active in politics and engaged with world events, we need to be as informed as we can get. There needs to be a voice that can bring the best of the week in news to your ears, and to let people know what’s going on not just nationally, but right on their doorstep. In just a couple minutes, we hope to enlighten you on your world, and let you hear from the people who live in it during live interviews. We might be a small team of students, but we will do our best to bring the same integrity and authenticity that only the news can bring.

We hope you tune in to the Dam and see what’s going on this week.

Until next time
