Health equity, Policy and leadership fellowship

at cambridge health alliance

The Fellowship is a two-year program designed to prepare emergency physicians for leadership roles in transforming health care delivery systems and promoting health policies and practices that improve access to high performance health care for racial and ethnic minorities, economically disadvantaged groups, and other vulnerable populations.

The Fellowship is a collaboration between Cambridge Health Alliance and the Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Community Partnership at Harvard Medical School.

The Fellowship has two distinct, but closely related components:

  • The Commonwealth Fund Fellowship in Minority Health Policy at Harvard University is designed to prepare physicians, particularly physicians from groups underrepresented in medicine, to become leaders who improve the health of disadvantaged and vulnerable populations through transforming health care delivery systems and promoting innovation in policies, practices and programs that address health equity and the social determinants of health. The fellowship offers intensive study in leadership/health policy, public health, and management.
  • The Emergency Medicine Health Equity and Policy Fellowship at Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) is designed to provide emergency physicians clinical and administrative experience in developing and implementing public and population health innovations in a progressive, urban, safety net healthcare system. Fellows are appointed as clinical instructors at Harvard Medical School, and combine clinical shifts in the Emergency Departments of CHA with development and completion of a practicum project at CHA that focuses on examining the intersection of social determinants of health, community well-being, and emergency medicine.
