WIRES

NSW Wildlife Information, Rescue and Education Service Inc.

Many of us are aware of the impact of the bushfires in Australia to its native animal population. This year for the One School, One Book service project we have chosen the WIRES organization. WIRES has been in operation for 30 years and is one of Australia's largest wildlife rescue organizations. Their mission is "WIRES mission is to actively rehabilitate and preserve Australian wildlife and inspire others to do the same." If you would like more information, please click here.

What is Gurney Elementary doing to help WIRES?

Students are being asked to earn money by helping our earth. To help the earth and its animals, students can

  • recycle
  • reduce the amount of trash (use a metal straw or reusable straw)
  • turn off lights when they leave a room
  • create a wildlife habitat in your yard
  • be respectful of the environment
  • learn more about the wildlife in your area

What do I do with the money I collect?

You place it into your class' collection bin. It will be collected weekly and counted. Totals will be posted weekly.
