Class Description: Debate is the foundation of critical thinking, which is essential for our students’ educational development. In this program, students will learn the art of cross-examination debate and parliamentary debate. These forms of debating challenge students to not only support their opinion with evidence, but also to actively engage their opposition through cross-examination (questions) and rebuttal (counter-arguments). By being actively involved in choosing topics of interest, creating resolutions, preparing speeches and providing impromptu responses to opposition questions, students will build up the confidence, social skills and reasoning necessary for academic success. Different topics and debating styles will be covered each week, so students can sign up for one, two, three, or all four weeks of the program.
