Mr. Joel Young

My name is Joel Young, and I am beyond blessed to be one of the amazing counselor's here at Council Grove Elementary School. I have been in education for 9 years (6 teaching) and am starting my 3rd year here as one of the counselors. While I loved teaching, my true passions lay more in the helping students through crisis, their normal day-day emotions, advocating for them, and creating a space where students, staff,  and parents can process, and grow. A bit about me:

I have an amazing wife, Katrina, who grew up here in Council Grove. We have a 5 year old who starts Kindergarten this year (WHAT?!), and a 2 year old. My family enjoys spending time together, usually outside, exploring and going on adventures. I love sports. Disc golf, basketball, and football are my favorites to both play and watch. I also love playing guitar and singing, reading, cooking for my family and friends, and just spending time with loved ones. You'll see me repping for KU basketball, Chiefs football, the Royals (for better or worse), and Sporting KC. 

Some Fun facts:

I have traveled to India and London. I was an unofficial volunteer firefighter for a couple of years.

I have over 15 nieces and nephews! I've pulled more than a couple all nighters to finish a good book...
