PERFORMANCES
Middle School Statements: "How Can I Lift Voices at School?"
I can listen to someone who needs it, or I can talk to them when they are feeling down, because sometimes people have no one to talk to. I can lift up their spirits. I can compliment them, make them feel good, and stand by them through ups and downs.
– Ceci Schreiber
I can lift my voice by telling myself I’m worth it, and I can do it!
– Xander Rasic
I can lift up other people’s voices by listening to them deeply instead of thinking about what I’m going to say next. I can lift up others by talking about them, instead of just talking about myself.
– Townsend Webb
When I lift my voice, I stand up for what I believe. When I lift my voice, I make sure that I am heard. When I lift my voice, I shine, and I share the light to make sure others shine too. When others do not have the voice to lift themselves up, I do not walk away. I help. I do not dim others’ light to make myself shine. I make their light brighter, and then we will BOTH shine, brighter than before.
– Sophie Goldman
Middle School Poems
America can change.
Struggle isn’t about getting better, it’s about the process.
The process to get better is the place we grow.
America can change.
School isn’t about getting a degree, it’s about the process.
The process of getting a degree is the place we grow.
America can change.
Adventure isn’t about the experience, it's about the process.
The process of adventure is the place we grow.
America can change.
Change isn’t about the final product, it's about the process.
The process to change is the place we grow.
America will change.

Life is a fragile candle in the wind
How easily a life can end
Life is short and full of love
So spread your wings you baby doves
So learn to fly and do it well
What you’ll do time shall tell
You'll make mistakes, get messy too
But ill still say I’m proud of you
We all have goodness in our hearts
We all have good and substandard parts
If we can accept this and do no harm
And all choose to lay down our arms
The greatest parts I’ll choose to see
And you can do the same for me
If we can accept this and have no pain
We can choose not to lose but to gain
If we can rebuff actions that sting
We can truly honor Martin Luther King
And all of the others that came well before
And modern day heroes that open up doors
For kids just like us, just like me and you
For what in the wide world were planning to do
So honor their legacy and do all that you can
On January 19th to celebrate a great man

Benevolent and Bold
I hope for a world
Where people
Are not
Controlled
Benevolent and bold
I hope for a world
Where our president
Does not wear
A crown of gold
Benevolent and bold
I hope for a world
Where every member of a family
Feels safe enough
To step outside
Their
household
– Abigail Steinberg
Our future,
A world that goes against everything, everyone.
A world where all hope is lost,
A world where we cannot find the light in the dark,
A world where we cannot find peace left or right.
Or,
A world with hope, with brightness,
A world where that light is shining so bright in the dark,
A world where everywhere you look, peace is there,
A world where we love each other,
A world where we refuse to harm one another.
We can decide which of these two worlds we want for our future.
A world that is falling apart,
Or,
A world that is held together by each other,
A world that is truly cared for.
–Lia Mitchell
Lower School Song: “Turn the Light On”
written and directed by Joanna Sisk-Purvis
Sometimes the world seems like too much to handle
Sometimes we can't see past our own front door
But if we have the strength to light just one candle
We can find the way we've been looking for... so
Turn on the light
Turn the light on.
'Cause darkness can't stop darkness
Shine a light until it's gone
Turn on your love
Turn your love on
Cause more hate cannot stop hatred
But sharing our love can heal what's wrong
Sometimes it seems like conflict is forever
Sometimes we think we'll never get along.
But if we work to truly love our neighbors
Our differences are what will make us strong
Chorus
Shine a light on all of the people, through our darkest night
We'll see our shared humanity, and love will steer us right
Chorus
