SERVICE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
WHEN AND WHERE:
Carolina Friends School believes in celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, and on MLK Jr. Day we hold a "day on" rather than a "day off." For more than 25 years, the school has gathered in celebration and reflection on the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other changemakers working towards a more just future. The day is a culmination for art and education projects completed by the students, staff, and community members. The whole school gathers for an assembly that uplifts student visual art, poetry readings, and performances from the school's drum ensemble and a community choir. There are multiple service opportunities that families and community members can sign up to participate in after the assembly.
You can expect a gathering of student, staff, and community members in the Carolina Friends School Gym. This is an indoor mask-optional event, with loud music. You can expect songs by the community choir, student musical performances, and words from the Head of School. There will be a Spanish translation for the emcee.
