Award Books

Iowa Children's Choice Award

Students in Grades 4-6 are encouraged to read quality literature.  In order to promote reading and to participate in the state of Iowa book vote, North Cedar students are given an incentive to read books nominated for the Iowa Children's Choice Award by students and teachers from across the state of Iowa.

To participate in the state vote, students will need to read at least 4 of the books between the first day of school and February 15th.  An electronic voting ballot will be sent to students who have met this requirement.

Students are also encouraged to read even more of these nominated titles.  An award gathering will be held in May to celebrate students who fufill the following reading criteria:

Iowa Goldfinch Award

The Goldfinch books are a collection of at least 20  books nominated by Iowa teachers, librarians, and students that appeal to K-2 students.  Students  will read and/or listen to  read-alouds of the quality fiction and nonfiction picture books and Everybody books found on the Goldfinch list.  After reading at least 5 of the books, students will vote for their favorite during library skills class.

Bridge to Reading Picture Book Award

10 books are nominated annually for the Bridge to Reading Picture Book Award.  North Cedar Kindergarten and Pre-K students participate in the voting after hearing at least 5 of the 10 books on the nomination list.
