As with any tool used in the classroom, there is a range of how it can be used by teachers and students. Looking at some suggestions that came from articles that have researched the effectiveness of IWB, there are 4 areas that IWB can impact the classroom.
A couple things to keep in mind, just by the nature of the boards themselves and the resources that are available, this technology is easy to stay in the hands of the teacher. You will also find that many of the examples found within the online communities are focused on routine skills and lower levels of cognitive demand. These boards can help with efficiency within the classroom and moving from paper to electronic resources.
Interactive White Boards (IWB) come in a variety of brands and sizes, but they all essentially do the same things. The differences are in how they communicate with the computer and what smaller features are available within the software. Since you are not limited to just staying with the IWB Software, any interactive websites become great resources to use with your IWB. This is often a good starting point for many teachers wanting to use the IWB Board without much upfront work. You can also create interactive lessons within the IWB Software. You can create your own from scratch or download examples from the online communities that are associated with the board you are using. Downloaded lessons can be modified and altered to meet your needs. Within the IWB Software, there are Flash Interactive Activities that can be added to any Notebook easily.
