April 10: Tiebreaker Test:
Please read through the following reminders before you take this test.
Testing Time:
We will not be turning off and on the form throughout the day since so many teams will need access to it. That does not mean your team should take more time than allotted for their testing period. We will be able to see whether or not you submitted your test during the 30-minute time you selected.
Should your team end up in a tie or on the edge of making into the top 16, going over your testing period will put you at a disadvantage, and other teams who did complete the test during their testing window will be selected instead.
Remember: Teams have 30 minutes: 10 minutes to get settled in and 20 minutes to compose the short response to the prompt about The Collectors by A.S. King.
Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics:
We understand that this is an in-process piece of writing. OF COURSE, writers should use all of the conventions they know to better communicate their thinking, but we are not penalizing teams for errors in grammar, usage, and punctuation.
Reminders for COACHES:
You MUST monitor the team while they take this test. Do NOT leave your team unattended. Be sure you can see their screen at all times.
You may NOT touch/access the device students use to for their test during the testing period except to troubleshoot a technical issue.
If you are testing multiple teams at one time in the same room, each team needs to have their own device and be FAR AWAY from other teams.
You need to log into the device the team is using and open up the form for your readers. Students do not/will not have access to the test. After the quiz is pulled up, your students need to complete every answer, including the demographic information at the top.
Set a timer for your students for the 20 minutes they have to take the test.
If your students choose to use a piece of scratch paper to sketch out ideas prior to composing, collect that piece of paper from your students.
Reminders for READERS:
You have 20 minutes to complete this test. Be sure your coach sets a timer for you.
You will compose your response together, collaboratively, on ONE device.
The device may ONLY have up this testing link during the testing period.
You need to take off or set aside all other electronic devices (smart watches that can access the internet, phones, tablets, etc.)
Teams MAY NOT use any personal/team notes (electronic or written) to help them compose their response. Doing so will disqualify them.
You may use the book to help you compose your short response.
