Please consult the "Ensembles" page for descriptions of each group if you are not familiar with them.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO COME SING, no matter your talent, or experience.
Please know that our classes are focused on learning and building the necessary skills to sing and understand music. You are not expected to come in singing like Beyonce or Bruno Mars. This is why we are here- to learn and develop our voices wherever they are at.
All incoming Freshmen and students new to choir should register for Cantelina or Troubadours based on your voice type. If you're an older high school student who has not participated in choir yet, and would like to participate in choir next year, you can simply request Cantelina or Troubadours, or schedule an audition for Chorale with Ms. Hackethorn.
Musicians who have participated and/or currently participate in Band are welcome to audition for Chorale/Sonifers.
Columbia Chorale Auditions will include range assessment, singing patterns by ear, and a brief sight-singing example, plus :
Two Major Scales
One Chromatic Scale
All Through the Night
"Drink with Me" with the other parts.
SHEET MUSIC:
Sonifers Auditions are open to anyone who has completed at least one year of CFHS Choir or Band and is planning to register for Chorale as well. This audition will include all of the above as you are also required to be in Chorale (exceptions can be made for students who are exceptional sight-readers and musicians and who cannot be in Chorale due to scheduling).
Sonifers audition also includes singing a portion (about 1-2 min) of a piece of your own choosing. Music theater, pop, jazz, soul, and funk styles are preferred for this. Can use a backtrack or karaoke track for accompaniment, play accompaniment for yourself, sing acapella, or send music to Ms. Hackethorn.
SONIFERS ALSO NEED TO AUDITION WITH "THE PARTING GLASS" with your part.
*Sonifers should plan to register for both Sonifers and Columbia Chorale, which is a two-period commitment for your school day. For your audition, please have a copy of your 4-year-plan written out as well showing how you can make Sonifers/Chorale work in this year and future years. The only exceptions for this will be Band students who are in Wind Ensemble, or Sonifers seniors who have participated in Chorale/Sonifers previously and agree to learn the large ensemble music independently.
