Counting and number games can never start too soon! Practice counting objects one by one, subitize, compose and decompose numbers!! Have fun with them! If you are not sure about what these terms mean... you are not alone! Be sure to check out my Report Card Information Document to help decipher everything.
Singing songs is a great way to learn about numbers and to memorize new concepts! When in doubt... sing!!

READING
Reading is a vital part of all learning! Please try to set aside 20 minutes to read with your child daily. Reading to your children regularly (even your teenagers) is proven to help them succeed and fosters a love of learning for life!
WRITING
Keep writing fun at home by introducing new materials to use and encouraging authentic writing. Let the kids write your grocery list for you or add something to the family calendar. This purpose driven writing will encourage them to keep up the practice and always write for a reader!
Do NOT spell for them!! The only words they are required to spell correctly are sight words and simple words to stretch out the sounds! If they are spelling phonetically that is perfectly wonderful! SO celebrate when they write monster as "monstr" or school as "skool!"
There are so many tools that we use in writing that I went ahead and built writing it's own website! go there to print and have the mini word wall & ABC linking chart available to your writers as they are working at home, and have them out as they read to help as well!!

HIGH FREQUENCY WORDS
(Sight Words)
Try sticking the words up around the house and use them as a password to get things from the pantry for instance (everyone has to read it, spell it, read it each time). Print two sets of the words to play matching games such as memory. Write them on the tub walls with colored soaps, or in shaving cream on the counter! Keep it fun!!
