The North Carolina General Assembly passed BH-1099, allowing early admission to kindergarten for a child who has reached their 4th birthday by April 16th and is demonstrating extraordinary academic ability and social maturity.
CFCI applicants must also follow all CFCI lottery procedures for the school year in which they wish to enroll their young child into Kindergarten. Families must apply and participate in lottery deadlines, and if a seat is offered, meet all CFCI enrollment requirements in addition to the process outlined by the state.
When information submitted meets the minimum eligibility requirements, separate interviews by school personnel with both the child and the family will evaluate the child's level of motivation and interest in learning. Additionally, the school will conduct an assessment of the child to determine an extraordinary level of kindergarten readiness.
All decisions for Early Entry to Kindergarten are made at the school level by the Director of Education in coordination with the AIG Lead and CFCI Extension Team.
