As part of your child’s special education plan, your child receives occupational therapy. School based occupational therapy works in partnership with your child's teacher. Occupational therapy helps develop fine motor and gross motor skills. Our areas of practice in the school are fine motor skills (ex: cutting, coloring, and writing), gross motor (ex: balance and jumping) and self help skills (ex: feeding). You may hear occupational therapy called “OT” for short.
During OT sessions, I will provide instruction to your child and give strategies. But the best way to improve your child’s skills is to practice daily both at home and at school. Just like learning to ride a bike, fine motor skills need to be practiced. And it only takes a few minutes each day! My goal is always for your child to enjoy OT sessions and incorporate play and fun while learning new skills.
Please email me if you have any specific questions about what you can do at home to help your child. Email is the best way to contact me because I do travel throughout the district.
I have been working as an occupational therapist for Carrollton-Farmers Branch school district since 2007. I am looking forward to watching your child grow and learn this year.
